Panerai | Men & Ladies Watches | Watches World
All Panerai watches have similar unique features; Bold cushion-shape cases, luminous dials, leather straps, and many alluring features that make for a super dressy watch. Its signature looks cuts across all models, and if you wear a Panerai on your wrist, trust a watch geek to spot it. But what is the history behind Panerai? Established in 1860 by Giovanni Panerai, the company was initially called Orologeria Svizzera. Though founded in Italy, it was a company that used Swiss techniques in making watches, so you could say Giovanni made and sold Swiss watches. Together with Lean Francesco, Giovani’s son, the company began collaborating with Swiss watch experts and received advanced horological supplies that expanded the business. In the wake of scientific and technological discoveries, Panerai started researching and exploring how to infuse luminous materials into watches. After it eventually became a success, Panerai filed for a patent, and the Radiomir was birthed. The brand was also inspired by diving watches from the early 20th century. Panerai produces elegant watches that have an appealing appearance. Their watches are not too flashy, nor does it have a basic look. It’s a top choice for divers and those who love simple, classy watches. Panerai has over 100 models across four collections – Radiomir, Submersible, Luminor, and Luminor Due and is now under the ownership of the Richemont Group.
Is Panerai a good watch?
There are different models of Panerai, each with its unique characteristics. Their watches’ square case, luminous features, and scratch resistance express the brand signature. Across the collection, Panerai offers the most delicate features such that succeeding collections are an improvement on the former. For example, when Radiomir was made, the inspiration was drawn from radium discovered by Madam Curie. Knowing how toxic radium is, Panerai converted it into a paste so they could use it in the Panerai timepieces. However, when Luminor was made, Panerai used a lesser toxic material than Radiomir. To date, all Panerai watches use a photoluminescent material.
How much is a Panerai watch?
The Luminor collection has great models and striking features like the crown guard, and it is water resistant up to 200 meters. It also features a luminescent material different from the radium used in the Radiomir collection. The low-light glow of the hands and dial is an excellent feature that sets Luminor apart. Prices of Panerai Luminor range from $7000 to $27,000. You can get models in the Radiomir collection between $5000 to $11,000. However, there are more expensive models like the Luminor 1950 Tourbillon Lo Scienziato which cost over $100,000 while the Radiomir 1940 Minute Repeater Carillon Tourbillon GMT costs around $400,000 in the secondary market.
Is Panerai a good investment?
Lovers of divers and military watches regard Panerai watches as highly collectible. Although not all Panerai watches will make for mouth-watering sales. In fact, some watches’ value will decrease after a while. But there are still some Panerai models that are worth investing in. Also, Panerai watches are created with top-quality materials making them strong and durable. So, if you own one of the special collections, you can get a good return on your investment whenever you decide to sell it.
